Rosella Tursi

I am a New York City-based editor. My recent credits include the premiere episode of the HBO docuseries Last Call: When a Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York, which won a Golden Tomato award for Best Reviewed Docuseries 2023 from Rotten Tomatoes. The series has been critically-acclaimed for upending the true crime genre by centering the narrative on the victims, their families and the LGBTQ+ activists who worked relentlessly to force the NYPD to take the murders of gay men seriously at a time when the AIDS crisis was raging and hate crimes were soaring.

I was also thrilled to go to Sundance this year to attend the premiere of God Save Texas: The Price of Oil. I edited the second film in this HBO trilogy abut the Lone Star state and its many complexities. My film, directed by Alex Stapleton, explored the impact of environmental racism. We told the story in a personal way, focusing on Alex's family members, who live in a Black neighborhood that has been encroached upon by the oil and gas industry.

I mostly edit documentaries with production companies including House of NonFiction, Story Syndicate, Jigsaw Productions, Killer Films, Vice Studios and JuVee Productions.

I love to dip into the narrative world too. In 2022, I cut the award-winning short, The Knowing, a genre film that premiered at HollyShorts and made the rounds at lots of other festivals.

I have also edited multiple episodes of the award-winning Canadian television series Mohawk Girls. Created and directed by Tracey Deer, the dramedy focuses on the lives of four 20-something Native women living on the Kahnawake First Nations reserve.

I choose projects that have meaning for me, that tell stories I believe in. I love to find those special moments in an interview or verité scene that say a lot about the person, sometimes with just a subtle gesture or pause. Even with the most serious subjects, I tend to find some warmth and even humor at times. I'm known for my storytelling skills and the emotion and empathy I bring to my work.

I am currently in production on my own short documentary, The Time My Grandmother Was Held Hostage by Bank Robbers. I am directing, producing and editing the film. I hope to have it ready for festival submissions in 2025.
